Before starting software development, determine what the display product needs to support.
The screen resolution and interface are important starting points. A compact control panel with a simple status interface has different requirements from a high-resolution display featuring animated dashboards and multiple data visualizations.
Check the following hardware requirements:
Display interface: Confirm whether the selected mainboard supports the required RGB or MIPI-DSI display connection, as applicable to the specific board design. Verify resolution, timing, color format, backlight control, and connector pinout.
Touchscreen interface: Identify whether the touch controller communicates over I2C, USB, or another supported interface. Confirm that the appropriate driver is available for the selected operating system.
Communication interfaces: Determine whether the display needs UART, RS485, CAN, Ethernet, or other connections to external equipment. A physical UART connection does not automatically provide RS485 electrical signaling; the appropriate transceiver and protection circuitry may be required.
