Diablo 4's endgame is where small decisions start to matter. A good drop is only the beginning; the real work comes from shaping it around your build. You'll spend time comparing D4 items, saving materials, and deciding whether a promising piece deserves another round at the Blacksmith.
Resplendent Sparks are the key resource for pursuing Mythic Uniques. They can come from several major milestones, including defeating a first Tormented Echo boss during a season, defeating the Echo of Lilith, finishing the highest stage of seasonal reputation, or salvaging a Mythic Unique you no longer need. With two Sparks and fifty million gold, the Blacksmith can produce a random Mythic Unique. It is not a perfect solution, but it gives unlucky players a clear path instead of asking them to rely only on rare boss rewards.
| System | Main purpose | Player concern |
|---|---|---|
| Resplendent Sparks | Crafting a Mythic Unique | Scarcity and gold cost |
| Tempering | Adding build-focused affixes | Limited attempts |
| Masterworking | Strengthening existing affixes | Upgrade rolls may miss the target |
Greater Affixes deserve a close look before you invest anything. They provide one hundred and fifty percent of a normal maximum roll, so even one strong affix can change how an item performs. Ancestral Legendary gear may carry as many as three of them, while a Mythic Unique has four innate affixes. Players often talk about five-Greater-Affix gear as a dream result, meaning exceptional natural rolls plus unusually favourable upgrade hits. In practice, a clean four-Greater-Affix item with useful stats is already a serious prize.
For Ancestral Legendary gear, Tempering usually comes first. Manuals let you add focused effects, such as damage bonuses or Imbuement Potency. Each item has a fixed number of attempts, and wasting them can leave the piece stuck with poor results. That is why many players keep a backup item rather than risking their only usable weapon. Masterworking then raises the item through twelve ranks with materials from the Pit of the Artificer, including Obducite.
Most Masterworking ranks increase every existing affix by five percent. At ranks four, eight, and twelve, one affix receives an extra twenty-five percent boost. Hitting the same desired Greater Affix at all three checkpoints is the dream, though it can take several attempts. Farm the Pit for materials, revisit Tormented bosses for fresh drops, and keep your gold under control.
